need kitchen floor color/type suggestions?

I'm with your Dad on this. I think that wood laminate is the best choice not only to unify the flooring through the house but also for resale value. Putting in tile is nice but can be a factor for a future home buyer thinking they don't like the tile and will have to replace it. Almost everyone can accept wood floors.

OK. Your dad wants wood. That is a good idea, but not the shade in the foyer picture. That is too light. How about if he uses that color for a trim line about one foot from the perimeter and the rest a darker shade. Maybe a warm chestnut. Then the booth. If you are keeping the booth, maybe a softgreen(like the walls) in a stripe about one to two inches in width. Or maybe a black and white stripe. The material you use on the booth can be used elsewhere. Like the windows or place mats or napkins . If you can't sew, find someone who can. Or maybe pad up a piece of wood and cover it with the same material and use it as a valance. Place above the window on the wall; that way the window is not blocked and looks bigger than it is. You should go with wide dark wood flooring it will blend with the stone and have a fluent look through out your house.

I would paint the cabinets white and keep your appliances the same. You will need to bring some additional color into the room however and that can be done with curtains, art work and dishware.
