Enough room for a kitchen island?

My kitchen is currently 15'5" long by 10' wide. I am not planning for a kitchen table and plan on putting 4 or 5 bar stools around the island somehow. What I am wondering is if I have enough room to do something like this, and what kind of space I should allow for the front and back sides of the island.

The minimum distance between kitchen worktops is 1.2m but it should be around 2.2m if two people are working there at the same time. Assuming you will have worktops along one long side of the Kitchen and the island parallel to that, here is what you will need:

    0.6m worktop (2')+1.2m (4') work space + 0.6m (2') island unit = 2.4m (8')

Balance is 0.6m = (2 feet behind the island unit for seating and for someone to pass through.)

This space is not ideal. (it should be 3 feet minimum)

But to comment accurately, more information is needed such as location of door & windows, the actual configuration of your kitchen work top etc. If you send me a sketch with this info, I can give a better answer.

Dude is 100% correct. If you want to test the size, take a large piece of paper and cut it to the size you want. Place it on the floor, and "use" it. Walk around, open doors, etc.
