Mixing turtle species?

I currently have a yellow-bellied slider. I'm wanting to get a red-eared slider. Can you mix turtle species like that? I'm not planning on breeding them or anything, but I wanted a different type of turtle so I can tell them apart easier.

You would not be mixing species. They are both subspecies of the same species.
