Cala Ratjada in the North. Mainly Germans but they know how to party.

Palmanova. This is adjacent to the really lively resort of Magaluf so the night bars and things are within walking distance.

Palmanova itself is a fairly quiet resort which has interesting bars and cafes as well as one or two decent restaurants. Your couple can have the best of both worlds within a 20 minute walk.

The capital, Palma de Mallorca, is a cheap 20 minute bus ride away and there is a lot of things of interest there - also including some great eateries. Take a trip on the historic Soller Railway line for a first class day out (about €20).

For a mature couple I recommend the Hotel Son Mathias Beach. This is right on the beach and has a fab view of all the toplessnesses and thongs (but probably not at this time of year).

This hotel is geared up to adult Brits (not porno-style, just no children running around). The evening entertainment is variable but that's part of the fun.

Food includes lots of fresh fruit and chips are always available at mealtimes. The breakfast toaster is the best that I have ever encountered at a holiday hotel. They have covered the control knobs to prevent people upsetting it.

Temperature at the moment is in the 20C region but may drop a bit in November. Even if it rains there is lots to see and do in Palma itself.

I was in Alcudia last month and loved it, I have previously been to Santa Ponsa which is great but for us, both 50, 52 didn't like Palma area but at this time of the year the holiday season is finished and most places are closing for the winter. Take lots of euros as everything is very expensive, 5euro per pint beer.

Palma Nova is a good idea but if you want the best of the island, hire a car and explore. Don't forget the west Coast.

The weather is not very nice this week take a brolly and a sweater.
