Do I need to take up an MBA if my goal is to own a successful company, owning big businesses?

do I really need to take up an MBA? I do not plan to apply for a position, rather I want to own a company, invest in different businesses etc. I dont want to waste time, energy and money if its not necessary.

What you essentially want to be is an entrepreneur and you don't even need a bachelors degree to do that but believe me it helps, people with degrees have higher success rates in their companies rather then those without degrees. You first should start your company and invest all your money into that then if you have extra money you can then put that toward an MBA but when opening a company you need all the money you can get so wasting it on an MBA is unnecessary.

an MBA is not necessary for much of anything and especially not for owning your own business - a 4 yr business degree would help, especially accounting, and especially if you can take any entrepreneur type courses

don't even think about "investing in other businesses" - that woud be decades away if it ever happens

and you are doomed to fail if you try to go right from college to owning your own company -

1-what will you live on while you get started?

2-what money will you use to start your business? banks will not lend to people with no experience and no idea what they are doing

3-you might not make any PROFIT for years-you may have to keep putting your own money into the business to make it grow

4- get a job and learn about the world of business first and save money for your business venture, THEN start something part time if possible WHILE keeping your DAY JOB, so you have an income to live off of

Everybody has a different opinion. If you have all that it takes to be an entrepreneur, than its surely a waste of time getting into a Management College.

But you need to know it clearly that what are the things that are really important to become an entrepreneur? If you know the principles of the business, the various aspects of the business, the way to handle them, if you are aware of the corporate social responsibilities, the way a company is formed, the financial management, operational complexities bla...bla..bla...then you don't need to get into a management college. But then also be sure about all those other numerous things that are stored in that bla...bla...

Well a management degree from a good college will certainly ensure that you have got all that knowledge about establishing and taking the organization ahead in future. If you intend to go for a management degree, you should also ensure that the Institute is one of the top institutes and you get yourself in a program that suites you.

Getting a management degree from any institute will be of no help, and its better that you don't go for an MBA rather than do it from any average institute.

Many people have made a success of business without the MBA and even without a college degree. On the other hand, many get the MBA with a goal of starting their own business upon graduation. Some MBA programs emphasize entrepreneurship. It's a decision only you can make. The education can only enhance your probability of success.

Consult the Official MBA Guide. It's a comprehensive free public service with more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide. It allows you to search for programs by location (US, Europe, Far East, etc.), by concentration (finance, marketing, aviation management, health management, accounting, etc.), by type of program (full-time, distance learning, part-time, etc), and by listing your own criteria and preferences to get a list of universities that satisfy your needs. Schools report their accreditation status, tuition cost, number of students, class sizes, program length, and a lot of other data. Schools provide data on entrance requirements, program costs, program characteristics, and much more. You can use the Guide to contact schools of your choice, examine their data, visit their web site, and send them pre applications. You can see lists of top 40 schools ranked by starting salaries of graduates, GMAT scores, and other criteria. It's the best service available at http://officialmbaguide.org./

you do need to spend time working on a cruise ship or you will have no idea how to run one. Cruise tours are a good idea. You don't need to go to Europe or the caribbean. America has lot of little islands in Lakes and the beach coast to visit. Lots of interesting places along rivers too. You need to start small, that's the key. It's all about the experience on board. Try to be different, don't' copy the big ones. Try a murder mystery cruise. A lets go look at the wildlife cruise. Maybe a dinner or overnight cruise. how about an arts and craft cruise. (Market your service to clubs and they can have themed 'retreats' on your ship.) You're going to need a bigger boat.
