    I have a mac too

Unfortunately there is NO button that turns the cam on and off since it's built in.

When the cam is active there should be a little green light that should lit up.

Open photo booth and the green light will lit up and you'll see your self. (If it doesn't then your built in web cam is faulty)

But for third party softwares like skype you may need to make a minor adjust in the preferences

    For skype

    1. At the top go "Skype/preferences/" (or just apple + , comma key)

    2. In preferences theres a tab called "video"

    3. Under video preferences you should see a list that you can bring down to select your camera, in your case select 'Built-in iSight)

    4. Make sure the Enable Skype Video Tickbox is ticked

    5. Then when you contact someone on skype the call window will pop up and there should be a clickable button that looks like a camera, click that to start web cam chat.
