    I think it originated as a derogatory name for George W Bush. Since he is the younger Bush he is therefore "lesser" than George H W Bush. By some reasoning a "shrub" is smaller than a "bush".

    Kyle was winning everything and of course his last name is Busch....like bush so it caught on and everyone wanted to chop him down so they called him Shrub....ya know kinda like a bush after pruning :)

    Kurt = Big (Bush) Busch

    Kyle = Little (Bush) Busch = aka "SHRUB"
