97 ford expedition xlt engine problem?

My sister has a 97 ford expedition xlt and the problem is when she pull up to a red light she has to keep one foot on the brake and the other on the gas pedal because if she lets of the gas pedal the truck will die. What can cause that to happen?

There is a part called the Idle Air Control valve. It's connected to the fuel injection system and the on board computer. It is what allows an engine to maintain an idle. Her's might be defective or dirty and not working properly.

A 12 yr old car probably needs a major fuel injection service/cleaning and caring for the IAC valve is part of it.

There are many possible causes to this condition. Let the qualified service person know whether or not the check engine light activates as this occurs.

carbon build up is probably the reason. the idle air control valve can get clogged up and will not allow the vehicle to idle at all. you need to clean your throttle body and possibly replace the IAC(idle air control) valve
