10 points to speedy reply! IS MY GARLIC BAD?
I have garlic... and it's a bit brownish, but still very firm. It's been refrigerated.
Wanted to sautee it for meatballs... is this a good idea or is it spoiled?
10 points for a speedy BA (I need to know now) especially if you can back it up-

Ultimately, you should have fresh garlic and store it in a cool, dry & shaded place (not the fridge). However if you really need to keep it for a long time, whole garlic bulbs last for 3 weeks in the fridge, peeled garlic for two weeks in the fridge & green garlic and garlic chives for 5 days in the fridge. Of course, you should also try to keep the garlic from obtaining moisture in the fridge. To check look if there is a little greenish stem in the garlic clove, that's the sprout/germ. A sprout is a sign that it's older but it still might be able to use, no sprout is even better. An older clove loses flavor and a germinating one is bitter but as long as your cooking it you probably won't taste it. Sooo...
YES, from what i know, I'D USE IT
..and the sources below will back it up

I'm not really sure, but I usually cut the brown part off and use what's left. Better safe than sorry. :)

Cut as much of the brown off as you can. It may just be stronger if it is over ripe. Since you are cooking it, it will not be harmful.

Since your cooking it, its OKAY.
Go ahead, use it if your going to saute.
The brown is merely age,
its not ortten yet, that takes more time.
So yes, its okay.
best answer pleaaaaase???

It should be okay if it's been refrigerated. Especially if you're going to saute it, should be fine. :)
