Windows XP to Windows 7 Upgrade?

this is more of a request on what to do. What happens if I upgrade to Windows 7 from XP, will I loose everything I had Installed in XP? If so, Will a system Backup alone, to a External hard drive allow me to get everything back?

no you can't upgrade. you will have to transfer your files to another computer and then do a clean install and then transfer your files back over. only windows vista can upgrade. yeah i know, its stupid, but so worth it!
