What can I use on my dog to keep him from stinking so bad?

I concur with the bathing him (if you haven't already)checking his ears,anal glands, the houndy odour and diet. Smell his ears, if he has an infection they will be stinky.(currently treating ear infection in my dog) A dog with full anal glands will often scoot his butt along the floor, and or lick and bite at his bum frequently. The anal glands are located at 5 and 7 o'clock, if they are impacted it will feel like hard marble, this is something you probably want to leave to a vet or dog groomer, it's a very stinky job!(have had a dog with some anal gland trouble) Also like Julie D said if he's a hound, they have an stinky odour about them! I own a basset/bloodhound mix and he smells all the time! I usually bath him once a month with an oatmeal shampoo and wash his bedding at least once a week to keep the odour down.

Take the dog to a vet to see if the odor is from within, meaning he has a throat infection, bowel problem, etc. You don't say how often you brush and bathe him. He may need a few bubble baths before he smells okay. To save money, you may be able to do this yourself, but don't do it too often and be sure to use doggie shampoo and conditioner- not human stuff.

of cousre the smell is likely related to your dogs diet and can be prevented by feeding them better food i suggest a raw meat diet but if that's to difficult then you should just switch to a healthier dry dog food make sure you read the pack first though. you want one with no acids preservatives <-- for the smell and make sure it has no unnecessary sugar

It can be many things. It can be his diet. It can be the shampoo you use. He could be rolling in something outdoors. Also dogs that are in their crates for extended periods of time will start to smell really badly. And the only way to stop them from smelling is not keeping them in their crates for long periods of time.

Is it possible that he is leaking anal gland fluid and laying in it? He may need his anal glands manually expressed at the Vet's office. If he is a Houndy breed, sometimes they always have a Houndy odor, no matter what you do.

Add: Check the ears, as well.

wat brand food is he eating.. quite commonly if a dog is eating crappy food you can really smell it on there coat,.. switch to a high quality dog food. research it properly be sure there are no bi-products, no fillers,not chemically preserved etc.

If it's his butt- then his anal glands are clogged. This really stinks. you can google how to espress his anal glands. Otherwise- give him a bath!
