A recipie calls for melted shortning can i use regular cooking oil? its a coffee cake recipie?

    it will probably be fine, applesauce can be used too, its a lower fat substitute.

    If anything I would sub margarine or butter for the shortening UNLESS it calls for the shortening to be melted than go ahead with the vegetable oil. Good luck.

    I Doubt it its more like margarine/butter is asked for sorry .
