A Grandad asking a question about a mobile phone?

Take pity. I have an old Vodaphone pay as you go phone. I want to update to a newer phone....3G with Camera etc. Do I just put my present SIM card in the new phone if I want to stay with Vodaphone or will they send me a new SIM card and a new phone number. Thanks for helping.

    HI Grandad!

I'm sorry, but there's a lot of misinformation in the answers above. A PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) is only required when changing networks, so not relevant if you're staying with Vodafone.

And 3G accepting the Vodafone SIM? I think someone was confusing the 3 network with 3G technology. Vodafone HAS got 3G handsets - loads of em! Don't worry about locked handsets - just go to Vodafone :)

As you want to stay with Vodafone, the best way for you to upgrade is to go into a Vodafone shop with your SIM card. They might replace the SIM with a more modern one, but if they do, they'll reprogram the new SIM with your old number.

It depends on what deal you are getting in future.

If you buiy a new mobile without a deal (i.e. no SIM lock, no contract) you can just put your old SIM in the new phone and carry on with your current number and pay as you go. Buying a phone without a contract can be quite expensive.

If you buy a phone with a contract you will get a new SIM card.

If you are planning on keeping your present contract you can use the same sim card.

If you are getting a new phone on pay as you go they may send you a new sim card, but you don't have to use it, as you can continue using the one you have already got.

If you are changing from a contract to pay as you go (or vice versa) you will need to contact Vodafone to ask them for a PAC code to transfer your number to the new sim card.

    Hope this helps you.

Find your nearest Carphone Warehouse near to you through my link and ask to see the unlocked camera/phones.

They come with a £10 sim card, when that runs out you can replace it with your old sim card if you wish and thereby retain your old number and stored numbers.

    nowdays most phones are blocked

either you go and unblock the phone to use yr own sim card

    or

if 3G accepts vodaphone as network u won't even have to do it

    good luck
