using ubuntu linux from a pen drive, how and where do i save my session data. e.g. what ive just done?
apt-get updates and newly installed programs...where would i store them?.. i tried doing a software update and it ran out of space half way through. is the data being saved on the 4gb flash drive or what?
nhasian.. thanks. so i can create it whilst in ubuntu itself?. the thing is the usb drive is used to boot it up in the first place. do i not need to keep it plugged in? or do i have to ust use a differant usb drive to create the new one on?..

yes, if your booting from a USB thumbdrive, the entire OS as well as your personal data is stored on the thumbdrive. You can create a persistent Ubuntu USB thumbdrive in ubuntu by going to System-> Administration-> USB Startup Disc Creator
when you create the bootable thumbdrive make sure the radio button for "Stored in reserved extra space" for documents and settings. Do not choose "discarded on shutdown" You will also have the option of how much disk space to reserve for ubuntu using the slider.
The minimum size for a thumbdrive is 1GB, but 2GB+ is recommended.
WARNING: USB Startup Disk Creator will erase any data on the USB disk. Back up any files you don’t want deleted.
