Why is my paint gun splattering the primer when painting my car?
I went outside to paint today, using a brand new paint gun. I was putting primer on the car, and it is a primer gun..I bought a touch up gun, a primer, and a color, and the paint was splattering. The primer said to keep it around 35-40 PSI, and that is where I had it.
So why was the paint splattering? I tried changing the valves on the gun, but I couldn't get it to spray right.
The primer is not too thick. I actually thought the primer may have been too THIN.

sounds like hard pigments or dried up paint in the paint. Dump the gun out and clean it good and then strain the paint thru a fine straining screen that will pull all of the dried paint and hard pigments out. Good luck

If you are sure that the paint is mixed and not too thick, and the compressor is putting out the right psi, reclean the gun and needle valve and try a section on a piece of plywood to see if it still splatters. The only other thing that makes spray guns splatter is when the paint is low. My guess is the paints too thick.
If everything checks out, the gun is defective.

I painted a 1977 Chevy truck "rust-o-leum lamp black" with a compressor and a paint gun. It turned out like these cars with the whole flat black "rat rod" paint job. It looked good and lasted 2 years and eventually faded. If you just want color on an ugly *** beater, why not?

Spend the extra money so your car doesn't look like you took house paint, thinned it and sprayed it on your car. You would do better using cans of spray paint for metal.

take out the paint and put in paint thinner and spay for a while it should take off the clogged if it has one.if nothing happens change the gun
