Is Trick-or-treating really just panhandling?

    Not exactly, unless it's Trick or Treat for UNICEF. And even then it's still not exactly panhandling. By definition, panhandling is begging for money. With trick or treating you're not looking to get money, but food. Or more accurately a junk food, i.e. candy (although there are other treats handed out besides candy, including apples, popcorn, pretzels, stickers, and money). Then there is Trick or Treat for UNICEF where you are going door to door asking for money specifically. However, UNICEF (originally the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, today it's the United Nations International Children's Fund even though it still uses the acronym of it's old name) is a charitable organization, which makes Trick or Treat for UNICEF not panhandling but collecting money for charity.
