Why am I out of breath?

A couple of weeks ago when I was running I suddenly became out of breath. I could only take short breaths. I'm not an advanced runner but at the time I had been running almost every day for at least 3 weeks, and had never had that problem before. After that incident I stopped running yet continued to be out of breath for a couple of following days.

I have to get back into some kind of shape before swim season, so today I tried to run again. I only got about half way around my usual route of 1.5 miles before I could not breathe, and I cannot figure out why.

I used to have exercised induced asthma but that stopped occurring about 3 years ago, and usually didn't flare up unless I ran over 3 miles. Also, I am slightly overweight, but even so I never had problems like this before. Even 30 minutes after my run I still feel out of breath. Does anyone know why?

Update:

No I do not smoke

You have to see a doctor and ask him why. Maybe he would recommend a complete physical to find out your actual condition and to eliminate any suspicions of latent diseases. Do it now please.

It could be your asthma. When i run i get out of breath. Sometimes its because i don't breath right when i run. which should be in through your nose out through your mouth. it could also be that you are out of shape and your body is trying to get back into the swing of things. I usually takes your body 3 to4 weeks to get back into shape.
