Is it possible for an American to open a brothel in the Red Light District of Amsterdam?
Who would I need to contact for a license (if needed)? Are existing Red Light District brothels bought and sold regularly to foreigners? Any info on this subject would be greatly appreciated. I'm only interested in owning an establishment and not looking to be a customer. Thanks.

Well it's an unusual question because normally it is how to open a coffeeshop but not a brothel.
Anyway I really don't know much about owning brothels in Amsterdam but I thought that in the majority of cases that actually prostitutes rented the windows but were not directly employed, so I am not sure what you mean by owning a brothel - just the premises or the operations
Another thing to consider is that in recent years that the amount of windows have been reduced in Amsterdam, so I would imagine it would be difficult to start a new one (although as I said, I am not sure about the facts)
<Cost>
Any premises in Amsterdam is costly, but business ones are exceptionally expensive. Even when one does become available then you would have to check things like it's location to local schools, and have won the lottery in the meantime :0)
<Visa>
If you do not hold an EU/EEA passport, then you cannot just move over and start a business anyway. You would have to obtain a visa to be self-employed. However, to get this, you would have to prove that the business is of fundamental interest to the Dutch economy and it states on the official documents that brothels and such like are not considered as such. You can read more on this site http://www.ind.nl/EN/index.asp and specifically here http://www.ind.nl/EN/verblijfwijzer/verblijfwijzer...
The link given by Dru is a good starting point, but don't forget about the visa side of things because the KvK will not be able to advise on this and it is essential that you check this out before getting into anything

It's very difficult to open a new brothel. Or you must buy an existing brothel from an entrepreneur. The local government is decreasing the brothels in the red light district area, because of the many illegal workers. I think lot of the brothels are all ready owned by foreigners.
You can contact the Amsterdam chamber of commerce. They might will give you the right answer.
