Make a backup of my hard drive?

i need to install windows 7 ultimate on my pc but just in case something goes wrong i need a backup of my hard drive. Is it possible to make a backup of all the drivers and windows files to a disk and when you insert the disk you can run your pc from the cd and then copy the files from the cd to the hard drive.

I think your mixing need with want.

I'd put in another HD (even an old wee one) and install 7 on that and try it, maybe with your old drive still in as a data disk.

But if you realy want to got ahead Acronis, or maybe Norton Ghost is probably what you need.

Using Acronis you can clone your hard disk to another drive or create an iso clone image onto a memory stick, CD or DVD. I created a clone image using acronis of a 12gb used hdd into 1.4GB on a memory stick - did take a while, very easy to restore though.

I understand Ghost has similar functionality and some guys swear by it , but I've anly used acronis so cant comment on ghost.

There may be freeware with similar functionality.

If its a lappy, I'd get a USB caddy with a disk in, swap the disks over, and install 7 onto the clean disk, then copy my data back from the caddy with the lappy's old disk in it- then if 7 gives problems you just need to swap the drives back over.

    Have fun ;o)

Go buy an external harddisk (only it is a space big enough) costing around $150 and use it to do the trick. Make sure what you planning will work first before you do anything.

    * Go check it out with the computer consumer and support services first.

Because what you are planning to do is not going to be easily task to do.

-- Until now everytime my computer crash i would have to conect them through the phone to ask them how to restored my computer to the factory mode. And after that whethe that back data you planning to create will work or not i don't no. Maybe not.

With a Quick Restored Disk if they provide one for you it maybe an easier task to do. --

  • I suggest getting downloading a (30) day trial of Backup4all and backing your entire drive up to an external Hard Drive. You can then install Windows 7.

Create a mirror image backup of your drive to an external hard drive or DVD; Macrium Reflect or Easeus Todo Backup are free

    http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.asp

    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/3911/easeus-todo-is...

both allow you to create rescue cds - you boot from this cd in order to restore a previously created backup image

search youtube for tutorials on how to use both products.

Unfortunately, no. Aside from the fact that cd's are just too small to hold all your files, OSes are not static data (things change on them all the time) and that makes it impossible to burn to a cd/dvd for use.

as far as drivers goes use driver max(http://www.innovative-sol.com/drivermax/)...a fantastic program that will allow you to bkup all your current drivers. Windows files are another issue that can be done but you will need to create "rescue disks" go here to find out how: http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6121_102-0.html?thread...

specific, it somewhat is very a good thought. as quickly as you place indoors the pastime it ought to ask you the situation you prefer to place it, purely specify the newpersistent. as far as velocity, of course speedier is extra efficient. 5400 must be the backside i might bypass, 7200 could be good. even nevertheless the relationship velocity (USB1 or 2, Firewire) will in all probability make the main distinction.
