How To Build a Website That Non-Computer People Can Maintain?

I'm a computer person. Some people aren't. I want to make a website (just a basic one in Dreamweaver, using HTML and CSS), and I want to set it up so that a non-computer person has control of the text. This way, I can create the page, and they can maintain/update the content. What is the most efficient way of doing this? Thank you very much.

Either use a CMS which is overkill but who cares? Joomla, drupal, phpWebSite, WordPress are a few of my favorites.

Or build a CMS of your own with fixed content areas. Look at http://marywillsussman.com/ for an example. The home page is Wordpress and the gallery is garrery but the rest are a mini CMS I built in php/mysql/tbs(templating engine). Mary maintains every image, word and decoration on the entire site. Mary is a quilter, not a computer person.

"Joomla!" would probably be the easiest. But it would require you to learn a technology.

If it was me and the site was small I would set up the html file to parse an XML file with the text in it. Or run an XSLT against an XML file containing the content to generate the HTML page.

use CMS system is your first choice if you hope non-computer people can maintain your website

Try this : just click and type can build the whole website easily

All files can managed with admin system without learning complex FTP/webeditor softwares

we can build a CMS system for you with low building cost

building a real website with .com or your domain name

is like having a physical store

3 steps you need to complete

    1. find a physical store (find a server/virtual host)

you may rent or do it by yourself or but it

Rent-means you need "virtual host" (search engine can help you)

Do it by yourself - find a computer and set it as a server

    here is the server-related search

    2. put your commodities in your physical store (uploading your contents to server)

Web contents are placed to the server(photos or texts)

any function you need can install in this stage

    here is the webpage-related search

    3. name your physical store (domain name setting like www.tsmmc.com)

visitors can link to your website with your domain name easily

    by setting DNS server

here is the domain name-related search

    http://english.tsmmc.com/search.php?query=domain&a...

try outsourcing of it - you will save a lot of time

I would go to www.blogger.com. It is a blog but it is a website. Just make an account and off you go. If you want it to be seen in google or other search engines just submit them to that search engine. I hope this helped

It can't be done. Retaining the domain name requires paying the registration fees. There's no way around it. This rule was specifically created to impose costs on those who domain squat.
