A long time ago, prizes were awarded for your level, but that hasn;t happened in three years. The last giveaways were about two years ago when stuff was given away for a technology push
At this point, the points only let you establish your position on the leaderboard

The points cannot be redeemed for anything if that's what you mean. You earn points so you can advance through the levels and be able to participate more within Yahoo! Answers.
