You only get Contributions-Based JSA for 6 months. After that you get Income-Based JSA, as long as your joint income is below a certain level. So you may get nothing at all.
It's a completely unfair system. A person who's never worked a day in their life would probably be better off than you.
What to do about it ? Nothing you can do.

If you think it has to do with your tax contributions contact the tax office, yet I think they calculate within the past couple of years only. Are you in private rented accommodation? Get down to the council offices and to the housing department and explain the situation On Monday 8.30 am. They might have accommodation for you and should be able to advise. You should also be helped with rent and council tax payments. If private renting there is no guarantee they will pay full housing benefit etc. Yet you can find out what is available.
If nothing then the next step is to buy a tent or caravan and find a site that is clean and safe.

It's nothing to do with what tax you have paid, probably nothing to do with NIC either. Unfortunately tax deductions aren't an insurance system that you can make a claim from when you fall on hard times, tax is lose, lose, lose. I take it you and your wife have applied for tax credits as she is a part-time worker? That could depend on her level of pay.
It looks as though your timing is out as far as getting a tax refund is concerned, too. The tax year starts on 6th April. If you were due any small refund, it should have been made with your jobseekers last payment.
You could try to get an income-related rebate on your council tax. Apply to the council for that.

I can sympathise as my husband was made redundant after working for 37 years full time,
All he got was JSA but nobody told him about anything else we could apply for,
Have you tried working tax credit, and if you have children under 20, in education you may also get child tax credit-its worth a try as I now get both as we have 2 sons in education, I also work full time,
ITs the usual story, you're punished for working yet those who've never done a days work in their life get everything.
Ask to see a benefits advisor who will surely go through your individual circumstances and work out what you may qualify for
also apply for rent and council tax rebate
