    The answer is none of the above. Constellations are stars that appear to be some particular shape as we view them from Earth and generally aren't even close to each other but only appear to be.

    Astronomers from years past decided what these star "groupings" looked like to them and so they live on in history as constellations.

    If you could fly around the galaxy...you would find that these stars that make up the constellations are not even close to each other at all.

    4. None of these. Star clusters, on the other hand, tend to be the same age and same distance. Constellations just happen to be very large luminous stars that make a pattern in the night sky. In most cases they are not connected to each other in any way.

    About the same brightness. The key word is about - they are not identically bright. But they usually stand out to the naked eye.
