taking 28 day birth control pill.?

how is it you won't get pregnant when you take the week long "sugar pill" while you can get pregnant if you miss a pill on one of the days during the first 3 weeks of the package.

arent the "sugar pills" during the last 7 days kind of like skipping a pill for 7 days? so you can get your period? do you still ovulate?

The hormones in the pill prevent ovulation. The seven days of sugar pills are only to remind you take take them. There is enough hormones in your system from the pill to prevent ovulation and pregnancy provided you take the other pills in the pack as directed.

If you miss any of the hormone pills during the pack the hormones levels in your body will fall enough to allow ovulation to occur.

Source(s): I was on the pill for fourteen years.
