Looking for a very good guitar to buy. Brands, models, ?

I'm trying to buy an electric guitar for my teenage son. Looking at Gibson, Les Paul editions and Yamaha. Not sure what to look for when shopping on Ebay. If I stick with these brands will I do well, or do they make stinkers for Walmart like Fender does?

Stick with these guitars, please trust me! These are classic guitars, you just simply can't go wrong with them - these might be a little expensive but you should invest in a good electric guitar.

Fenders Stratocasters - American Standard Stratocaster

    Yamaha Pacificas - Pacifica 112

    Epiphone SGs - G - 400

(Epiphones are a Gibson brand too, just cheaper versions)

If you have the money then buy him a:

Gibson Les Paul - Gibson Les Paul Studio

    or a

Gibson SG - Gibson USA SG Standard

    both are like $1,500+

but are very good classic guitars. The BEST out there.

Good Luck to both of you.

I've been playing guitar for a few years.

I have a Fender Stratocastor, and a Gibson Les Paul studio.

The Les Paul has the most well rounded, and most amazing sound I've heard from any guitar, but they're pretty pricey.

Mine was about 1200$ on sale, but it's so worth it.

I wouldn't go with Epiphone or Squire, especially if your son is serious about playing. A les Paul is great inspiration.

Go for it! (I'm pretty sure that yamaha is better with acoustics. Gibson acoustics aren't too great. Funny how things like that work, huh?)

    I hope I helped!

    Source(s): My own Les Paul.

It all depends on at what level he is playing and how much time he has dedicated to this pursuit. Perhaps you could resubmit the question with that info.
