Can't find a decent priced hotel in Manhatten! Somebody please help. Anybody subleasing over Christmas?
I must have searched on 100's of different websites, but so far I have found no decent price accommodation in New York. I know it's there. Perhaps somebody is subleasing their apartment over Christmas?? Let me know please. My children and I are only after a basic warm room with cable and a bathroom. Not interested in fancy facilities. The reason I have to keep the cost down so much is because we are going to be in New York for over a month, and prior to that in Los Angeles for one week. If somebody could please help, I would be very grateful. Please make sure all prices are inclusive of taxes, don't want any nasty surprises.
Also - what is the fastest cheapest way to get to Manhatten from the airport. (don't know which airport yet)
Thanks heaps guys!!!

It's Manhattan...no E.
The problem is that people start booking very early (like June) for Christmas/New Years and the prices on the remaining rooms start going up as they become more scarce.
Bed and Breakfasts are usually not listed on the Hotel websites and there are quite a few in Manhattan. They're usually lower priced than hotels because they don't have many amenities and you're often sharing the centrally located bathroom with another room or two. You probably won't be able to get a room in any one of these for a whole month. It's just too late in the year.

From LaGuardia the cheapest is the M60 bus at $2.25 one way per person over 5 years of age (coins or metro card only). It stops at every terminal and gets you to Harlem and the Upper West Side. If you're bringing a lot of luggage, there's a good possibility the driver won't let you on the bus because a lot of people commute to work on that bus during the week and it gets crowded. I've seen people denied passage a number of times. You'll probably have to transfer to a bus or train to get to your final destination anyway.
From JFK, you need to take the Air Train ($5.00 per person over age 5 as you exit, metro card only - vending machines near the AirTrain gates as you get to Sutphin) to Sutphin Boulevard and go downstairs to the Manhattan bound E train for $2.25 per person (metro card only - vending machines in the station). There are elevators/escalators most of the way down so carrying a lot of luggage will be a bit easier.
Someone else will have to help you with Newark. I've never done that route before on public transportation.

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

First search for a shuttle by typing in (airport to Manhattan shuttle) and follow the links. Go to priceline .com and bid for a room in a 2 star or less hotel in Manhattan. Offer half the shown prices on that hotel's web site and change to 1 star and change the bid price. Keep trying.
