It's interesting how the more advanced a society becomes, the more we have to "take care" of the homeless people, who seem to multiply as the society grows.

I've seen people who came from nothing, with all the cards stacked against them, make something of themselves, BY THEMSELVES. I've also seen people born with a golden spoon in their mouth piss away everything they have.

There are some genuine hard luck cases out there, and some mentally ill people too, but the vast majority of people who live on the streets CHOOSE to do it. Living on the street is HARD WORK. You have to deal with illness and hunger, with getting assaulted, being hassled by police and store owners. You have no safety, no security, no modern conveniences. You have to scrounge up money each day to support whatever habit you have (drugs, alcohol, etc) and usually this is done through sex work. It's a heck of a lot harder than 9-5 at Burger King, or cleaning toilets in the subway. The opportunities to "get out" are few and far between.

Yet, some people manage to do it.

    How?

    It's called DEEP DESIRE.

If you really want something in life, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse. It's that simple. Every single thing you see on this planet that was made by humans began as a single thought in a person's head, from the pyramids, to the space shuttle, to the internet, to the Hoover Damn. They all started with nothing more than a single thought in someone's head.

Nobody is FORCED to be homeless. There are more than enough social programs to help people get on their feet, and reassimilate themselves into society. But the person has to WANT it. The person has to say to themselves, "I no longer wish to be homeless." It's no different in practice than thinking, "I want to build a canal to connect the Atlantic to the Pacific."

Watch the movie The Pursuit of Happiness to get an idea of what I'm talking about.

Good for you and I think a lot more people should be concerned. Thousands of empty church buildings in the US are locked up every day and night, while people on the street suffer. Here's the thing...you do NOT have to be mentally ill, addicted or alcoholic to wind up out there. If you become even partially disabled or lose your job and income, you can be the next to join the club.

For the most part they sealed their fate long ago. Every American child is guaranteed 12 years of free education at public expense. The chronically poor may have occupied a seat, but that's all they did. Those who have become poor during the Bush Recession were slow to read the writing on the wall, or they put themselves at a disadvantage by spending more money than they had or by assuming their job was secure.

Source(s): Homeless children are just the droppings of useless adults who can't keep their knees together.

The vast majority of homeless people are children, by the way.
