As the other answers have said, it's not the nicest area in Birmingham (but certainly not the worst I can think of). The area is largely council owned and looks rather dated.

I wouldn't choose to live in Bartley Green if I was planning to raise a family as the schools are generally below average in Ofsted reports and (along with neighbouring Shenley Fields) has one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in the country.

Very Harsh comments. Bartley Green is certainly not as bad as stated within the comments I have read here. I'm a

retired lecturer and actually live in Bartley Green. Yes, there are council properties and also privately owned properties. Many of the council properties have become ex-council as people have tended to buy their homes.

The area of Bartley Green is absolutely lusciously green and home to open spaces and a Reservoir. There is also Woodgate Valley Country Park, Urban farm and Holly Farm Trekking Centre for the horse riding enthusiasts. Taking education into consideration there is also King Edwards VI Five Ways School and of course Newman College. Not forgetting various other schools. Bartley Green is also only a short distance to open countryside and also Harborne. I use to live in Harborne and I must admit take away it's cafe culture, over priced properties to buy and rent and you will discover that it too has it's own issues. Not so pretty areas and oh! yes, council properties. A rise in the student let properties - leading to noise. And bing very close to Bearwood and Ladywood. If your moving to any area go and take a look, with open mind and you may just find a gem.

A big council estate on the edge of Birmingham, It's not the best of areas, avoid it like the plague.

I live near, it's a council estate area though it's not all bad. There's a uni there so there's a fair few students nearby.

It's not the nicest of places but there's a lot worse. why'd you ask?
