Bacterial Meningitis is a bacterial infection targeting the brain and spinal cord. It is a very serious condition. It can cause a condition called Encephalitis, which is the swelling of the brain. When the brain swells there is no place for the brain to swell to since bone surrounds it on all sides. So when the brain swells it begins to compress, which is what will cause brain damage. Brain damage could lead to mental retardation, coma, or death.

But, so long as the Meningitis was caught early enough your nephew should be fine.

pray and hope for the best....prepare mentally for the worst!

but have confidence in your nephew's health care providers....I am sure they are taking proper measures to ensure your nephew's health is as it was if not better than before he got ill.

the outcomes that you listed are real and are possibilities....but medicine today is so innovative and he's so young, and children with the right care can bounce back faster than most adults.

but meningitis is the inflammation of the membranes that cover your brain and spinal cord....so it is a serious condition, but with proper care your nephew will be hugging you and telling you thank you aunty/uncle for the Christmas gift next month!! :)

if it was caught early, there is less of a chance of death or brain damage. but if it was advanced then.. sorry your nephew may die.. or suffer from hearing loss, paralysis, or seizures throughout his lifetime.. the problem is its infected the fluid in his spine and brain.. it can be treated by antibiotics, but if it was advanced, the drugs may not have enough time to work, or not have as much of an effect, if it was caught early the drugs have more time to work and have less bacteria to fight
