can I burn MP4 direct on DVD ?

Need to convert .AVI to DVD so I downloaded Format Factory, very good references, but I see no option to convert .AVI to DVD only to .MP4 and some other formats (screenshot:) http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/3727/capture693.g...

Can MP4 be burned to DVD to be watched on any player ?

many thanks in advance !

No, if you do it won't be readable by most DVD players.

The usual video format for a proper DVD is MPEG2. Search for a free AVI to MPEG2 encoder. If done properly [you will still need to make sure you burn it as a DVD-Video standard compliant disc and not merely a DVD-data disc containing an MPEG2 file], it will play on any standard compliant DVD player.

You should use a program like Nero which will automatically re-encode most video formats to suit a DVD. Try ffmpeg and ffdshow if you are having problems with juggling the different formats.

If you want to burn any video files to DVD, then play well on home DVD player, you should use the right software to create standard video DVD from your videos, don't use video converter software or otheres, there is an easy way and the better choice, you can try RZ DVD Creator, it can create standard video DVD from any videos, it can burn multiple videos to one disc, it can auto fit the size, it can easy custom professional dynamic DVD menu, it can create 5.1 AC-3 surround sound DVD from any videos, it can directly convert and burn any videos to DVD(DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-DL, DVD+DL, etc), such as avi to DVD, mp4 to DVD, etc.

Work well on my computer, good quality, easy to use, following is a step by step guide about RZ DVD Creator:

Step 1: Convert MP4 to VOB or MPEG supported by DVD disc.

In this step you need a Video Converter, I recommend 4Videosoft Video Converter Platinum which can convert between any video formats including MPG, MPEG, MPEG2, VOB, MP4, M4V, RM, RMVB, WMV, etc and extract audio from these video.

    Download here: http://www.aidownloading.com/4videosoft-video-conv...

Step2: Burn the converted video to DVD disc.

In this step you need a DVD Burner software, I recommend Cucusoft Mpeg/Mov/RMVB/DivX/AVI to DVD/VCD/SVCD Converter. It enables you to convert and burn any video file directly to VCD, DVD, SVCD, MPEG1 and MPEG2 format.

    Download here: http://www.aidownloading.com/dvd-creator.html

    Hope can help you!

Just the other day I took a .AVI file, burned it straight to a DVD, popped it in my PS3 and it played just fine.
