Agree or Disagree with this statement ?

I was watching an APBT documentary, and I while it was getting close to the end, I noticed something that one of the people who were interviewed said. The woman said that some rescue orginizations should not be rescuing this breed because they don't understand them or really overall, do not recognize them.

Then there was another man who said that rescue orginizations just want to help dogs in need and if they can, why not. Then when it came back to the woman, the woman stated that if she were a rescue orginization, she said "First off, you'll have to be a homeowner, and have a fenced in yard, and if you don't have a fenced in yard, you will need to have a kennel and if you have multiple dogs, i'd want to know where those dogs will be staying".

Do you agree or disagree what this woman says ? I am not sure to agree or disagree..

Update:

Amanda: I did not ask for a hate speech. If you were going to say that, you shouldn't have answered at all..

She's absolutely correct. I know. I have fostered for all breed/mixes rescues. The APBTs go into foster homes. Most of the time they are with a least a dozen other medium to large dogs. They get fed and cared for but there is little or no training.

If the rescue organizations are not breed specific this is where the problems come in.

Yes, they do their best. They are saving these dogs but at the same time the dogs are not temperament tested and are not socialized.

So, you have a 'catch 22' situation.

The woman was also correct about being a homeowner, having a fenced in yard and if they have other dogs, how are those dogs treated and where are they kept? Outside all day? Tied?

I watched a foster home with a Pit mix teaching the dog how to jump up........

    I rest my case.

ADD: Amanda: You are media hype brainwashed. Please do not make a statement "pit bulls are dangerous animals" when you do not know what you are talking about.

many states actually have laws about housing pits.. some do actually require fencing. These dogs have a bad enough reputation, precautions do need to be taken to avoid problems (same for all breeds tho really)

Yes, you almost have to be a homeowner to have a pit. Most rentals have breed bans and dont allow them. Its nearly impossible to find rentals that allow them.

Sounds like this woman is dedicated to making sure these dogs are going to responsible homes. Taking things too far or not, she is doing what she can to assure these dogs dont end up in the wrong hands. Perhaps if pet ownership was cracked down at more, we wouldnt have a need to ban breeds.

note that the woman said that SOME rescue organizations shouldnt be rescuing this breed. She is correct. They are better off in the hands of a rescue that understands the breed, and the laws regarding the breed.

I Disagree with most of her points...I have met a few APBT and their owners live in apartments. The dogs are regularly exercised and do just fine in a smaller place. So I don't agree with the yard statement.

When it comes to rescue organizations I would hope that those rescuing would have some type of knowledge...but not even all shelters are properly run imo.I am surprised at how many people can work at a shelter but not have much dog experience.BUT in the end everyone is there to help, that is whats important. A breed rescue may not know everything but hopefully they know enough...if a dog has major behavioral problems then they should bring in the proper experts(which many do)

I think when some people think of APBT they think very dominate hard to control and its usually not the case...the majority of the APBT at the shelters I have seen have been super sweet and submissive or just really hyper(no different then the lab or boxer that comes in).

I also Disagree with her statement saying that you need a kennel to have multiple dogs. For what reason?

I agree with her. Better a DEAD pit bull then a pit bull with a stupid owner! Said stupid owners give the breed the bad names they have.

Ex: Pit bulls were bred to fight. Hence the name Pit Bull. Deny that, and you are ignorant and naive. Therefore, the majority of them have strong animal aggression. They are extremely smart, but very stubborn, and can be difficult to train. So say you give this smart but stubborn, animal aggressive dog to a person who has NEVER had a dog before, doesn't know the first thing about dog training, and has 6 cats running around. What do you REALLY think is going to happen? Because I would bet anything it would end with euthanizing that dog for "Aggression". But hey, we were saving him, right? Adopting him out to a family because better that then nothing? Because why not? Except now the public has another case of an "aggressive" pit bull.

This breed is in extreme danger because of the IDIOTS owning them and the IDIOTS not TRULY understanding them. Half the pit bull lovers on here shouldn't own pit bulls! Hell, I think more then half of them shouldn't own them. In order for this breed to overcome the strong hate towards them, extremely strict breeding and owning regulations need to be inforced to ensure that the public can truly see the good side of a good breed, not the bad side of a poorly owned and trained dog.

A poorly owned pit bull will kill THOUSANDS of pit bull through BSL. So, better a few euthanized pits because a rescue was strict in their adoption procedures, then THOUSANDS of dead pits when any idiot is allowed to own one.

i kinda agree and disagree with her

some people dont understand pit bulls so they shouldnt look after them

we have a fenced in yard but when we are in the front,my dog stays in the yard.if we throw his ball out into the street,he wont chase after it,he stands at the curb and looks at it lol until someone gets it

and when other dogs or people pass by he doesnt run after them

pit bulls are very smart dogs and if they are trained to stay in the yard then they probably wil if they arent the kind of dogs that want to chase after cars and stuff like that

    AMANDA:

i have an APBT/lab mix and im 14.i have had him since i was 7 or 8 and he has NEVER hurt me

i agree with what walk tall and be pit proud said

    amanda is brainwashed

not all pit bulls are dangerous, its just the ones taught to fight and taught wrong.so it would be the people's faults

when my mom and me took my dog to the vet to get some shots

we were talkin about pit bulls and the vet said that they scored higher on temperment tests then golden retrievers and beagles

and pit bulls are called nanny dogs cuz the way they are around children.most are very good with children,my dog is

when i was litltle i use to try to jump on him and stuff lol when i got bored and he never did anything other then lick me

it bothers me when people dont see the good in them and how nice they are, many are used as therapy dogs and some pit mixes are used for other assistance work.all some people think about is the fighting

I don't think any of what she said was specific to Pit Bulls. No rescue should deal with a breed they don't know about. There are also certain screening requirements adopters must meet.

We need capable, strong, experienced and wise people to handle the pit problems of today, not just any rescue center or shelter, where most of these dogs aren't tended to as much as they should. Dog should be rehomed to families that KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND TE CONSEQUENCES.

    the woman is an idiot.

what she needs to do is put that nose into some books before she puts it in responsible rescue organizations.

Pit bulls are dangerous animals. I heard too many stories about them hurting children, let a lone adults. Some of the problems are how they are raised, but even at that, I would never trust one. Not with me, my pets or my family.
