I need help with this simple trig. equation.?

y= sin πx + cos πx---Starting equation

0=sin πx+ cos πx--- Set equal to zero

Should I subract sin or cos? Or should I use the reciprocal properties?

I'm not sure what to do. Oh and I am finding the x-intercepts of this equation using the unit circle.

    Well, in substituting 0 for y, it's pretty clear that your'e looking for the x-intercepts, since any graph intercepts the x-axis when y is 0.

    Really, all you need to do is find where sinx and cosx are opposites. (another way would be to find the values of x where tanx or cotx is -1). This will only happen in the second and fourth quadrants, at 135 and 315 degrees: or, if you want to put that into radians, 3pi/4 and 7pi/4.
