but get a can of plyobond glue made for formica

Liquid nails will bond to about anything. I used regular formica contact cement over my old formica without any issues. Just follow the instructions.
Liquid nails generally needs some type of clamping device like nails screws or clamps.

It will, but is not recommended. Use a contact cement. You really want a full coverage adhesive.
