A good Linux distribution for old pc (openSUSE or Ubuntu/Xubuntu)?

There is a sound driver problem on XP. The sound works on the live cd of Ubuntu.

Update:

Pentium III 700mhz single core

256mb ram

Ralink wireless-N (need the compatibility)

I know it's weak.

XP is a bit slow (I can still play Half-Life at lowest resolution) and no sound.

Must run flash player.

Fast interface. (disabling the bells and whistles)

mostly for internet browsing.

Don't suggest Puppy or DSL because they don't support wifi, other hardware, or flash well.

openSUSE or Ubuntu (Xubuntu)?

My old laptop had similar stats and I ran Xubuntu quite nicely on it for about 3 years (before the hinges gave out on the machine and I had to sell it off for parts).

Antix supports wifi. My Bel-something card was installed using the fluxbox menu item for wireless.

Antix is a spinoff off Mepis a debian derivative that switched from being debian based to being ubuntu base and now, back to debian.

If you insist on using ubuntu, try ubuntu xfce flavor. If its not too hard set up a 512 swap partition, activate it, and then do the installation. It might help a little. If you can't don't worry about it.

Spellcheck sure goes nuts on the geek vocabulary, eh?

Take a look at Linux Mint 7 XFCE which is ideally suited to older machines

relies upon what you prefer to do with it. in case you merely elect to work out some thing up and going then domestic dog could be a exceptional initiate. internet surfing is going to be a painful experience no rely what you employ. blockading scripts, java and flash will velocity issues up somewhat. in case you merely elect to do torrenting or report sharing then do a headless (server) deploy (ubuntu or debian, and so on) and deploy webmin as your interface. it is going to likely be usable headless whether it wasn't with a pc. Cheers!

    Xubuntu or Linux Mint

openSUSE is way to bloated, it probably wouldn't even install
