Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What in the hell happened? Can you spell 'politicians?'

And I still have to 'press 1' for English!?

The States have let the Feds gain to much control of our lives. The Constitution was designed to keep them out. But as long they can find a way to make personal gains they will forfeit our rights. And I do mean both parties. Our children have become ignorant about theirs and our rights and I believe this is done on purpose. In one of my courses in College we took an exam on the Constitution. 75% of the students had no clue which branch had what powers. And what powers are granted to them and which belonged to the States.

Sorry for the rant and going off the subject. NO more taxes please.

I know you righties are usually not very well educated and I hate to disillusion you but back in 1909, there weren't many who had phones, vehicles or watercraft much less utilities.

The USA was not the most prosperous in the world and when the first Republican depression started in 1929, we were about 30th. If it wasn't for FDR and his socialist programs, the USA would never have become as prosperous or attained superpower status. FDR took a nation with people starving in the streets and living in Hoovervilles and put them to work building infrastructure like rural electrification, sewer systems, and water treatment plants.

If it wasn't for FDR and his investment in the USA and her citizens, we wouldn't have been able to meet the double threats of Japan and Germany declaring war against us. Everyone worked, even the kids back in 1909. The child labor laws weren't enacted until the 1920s when women finally got the right to vote and Mom didn't stay home to raise the kids until the 1950's. This was because Dad could support the family with his union wages.

The prosperity came from FDR but Reagan and his GOP masters are what destroyed it. Can you spell, "Republicans?"

If this were a history test, you failed miserably.

I like the guy who states that a lot of the taxes you mentioned are "Voluntary".

Try not "volunteering" to pay the sales tax, next time you visit the grocery store, or don't pay the taxes on your utility buills.

Hey dude, can you understand the concept of ignorance, or are you living in a cave?

Great question by the way, sorry for unloading on the fool!

Yes, but only on the top 5% of Americans. You see, we've had about all the wealth distribution from Republican policies we can take, as you can see by our economy. Today, the concentration of privately held wealth at the top is at its highest peak since 1929, the year the financial markets crashed and gave rise to the Great Depression of the 1930s. At that time, 25% of the population was out of work. Despite our economy being mired in the deepest recession since the 1930s, people in the top 1% continue to own as much wealth as those in the bottom 90%.

Liberals don't think they have to pay taxes. That's for the "Other" people to pay.

That's why Obama surrounds himself with tax cheats and criminals; not to mention communists and radicals

Samantha Jones, other than the fact that we didn't have all the phones, vehicles and utilities that are taxed now, 100 years ago, you don't have much of anything else right.

FDR prolonged the depression, he didn't get us out of it.

Reagan got us out of what could have been a second depression, in 1980, if we elected Carter to a 2nd term

    lets get real here

Do you have any supporting evidence that ALL of those taxes did not exist 100 years ago? I find it hard to believe states did not charge property taxes.

This Libertarian would like to see higher taxes if all this spending is going to continue. Letting Congress continuously devalue the dollar is insane.

You missed the Federal Excise tax on tires. That was another "temporary" tax levied during WWII. Also, the Capital Gains tax as well as bridge and road tolls.

As far as they possibly can. Straight up your butt, if you let them get away with it. Interesting factoids: 1. Al Gore's home is much less energy efficient than George W Bush's. 2. Al Gore makes up for the difference by buying carbon credits. 3. Al Gore's equity fund owns stock in Camco International Ltd., a company which makes profits by selling carbon credits in other countries. (Guess where he buys his.) He stands to make a HUGE profit if Cap-and-Trade becomes law in the US You might find it enriching to do a little searching to find out who else owns stock in these companies...

The fishing tax hasn't been too big a problem for me, nor most of the other things on this list.

Bush's suicidal tax cuts need to be cancelled - ASAP!!! This will raise taxes on the wealthy and middle class back to reasonable levels - I paid like one thousand dollars on Federal taxes in 2003 when I was making over 50K! That's ridiculous!

Source(s): The deficit and debt will start being paid down the minute this happens - and Wall Street will be just fine despite all their crocodile tears.

Libs dont care most dont pay income taxes and dont think about the rest of the taxes we are forced to pay due to government waste! I don't want more taxes we need to lower taxes , that causes a recovery , the above taxes are the effects of government on steroids!
