Why does Mitt Romney want to become President?
I know Gingrich is an ideologue, Santorum is a Social Conservative and Ron Paul wants to slash government but Romney? He is wealthy beyond imagination, was not particularly much of an ideologue as Governor and is investing an awful lot of his own money seeking this office. But why? I still don't see a clear reason for him to want the job. Santourm, Gingrich and Paul all have a very clear and concise agenda. Heck, Gingrich's web site has his first year as President clearly defined. But Romney? I keep reading his take on issues on his web site but it seems sort of standard boilerplate rhetoric. I don't see what is his real motivation. Does anyone know what it is?
8 AnswersPolitics9 years agoDoes anyone know the motivation for the President's latest Executive Order?
It seems to be gathering an awful lot of power to the Executive Branch. He has been in office for three years and faces an election in 8 months. Does anyone know why he needs this at this time? It speaks to "preparedness". Preparing for what, exactly? Here it is in its entirety.

14 AnswersPolitics9 years agoWhy does Obama need to fire 67,000 troops from their Military jobs but not one bureaucrat is to be cut?
I think the troops are far more important than bureaucrats.
8 AnswersPolitics9 years agoAre Coulter and Drudge the Asan Akbar of the Republican Party?
Newt has done more for the Conservative movement than all the other candidates who are still or have ever been in this race. Yet he has been severely wounded not by Liberal Democrats but by Establishment Republicans.

5 AnswersPolitics9 years agoDoes it alarm you that Soros is predicting the occupy movement will turn violent?
In the interview linked here, starting about five paragraphs from the bottom:
"As anger rises, riots on the streets of American cities are inevitable. “Yes, yes, yes,” he says, almost gleefully. The response to the unrest could be more damaging than the violence itself. “It will be an excuse for cracking down and using strong-arm tactics to maintain law and order, which, carried to an extreme, could bring about a repressive political system, a society where individual liberty is much more constrained, which would be a break with the tradition of the United States.”
3 AnswersPolitics9 years agoSince the story about Newt Gingrich divorcing his dying wife has be debunked is it time for us to ask the?
media, "What else are you lying to us about?" His first wife is not dead, she never had cancer and she is the one who sought the divorce.
Here is what her daughter has to say about it:
My mother and I have both recently run into quite a few people who hold an inaccurate understanding of this hospital visit. Many think my mother is dead.
Mom went to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta for surgery to remove a tumor. While she was there, Dad took my sister and me to see her.
It is this visit that has turned into the infamous hospital visit about which many untruths have been told.
My mother and father were already in the process of getting a divorce, which she requested.
Dad took my sister and me to the hospital to see our mother.
She had undergone surgery the day before to remove a tumor.
The tumor was benign.
As with many divorces, it was hard and painful for all involved, but life continued."

According to Gallop, even Democrats are agreeing with Republicans.
10 AnswersPolitics10 years agoIs Norway's butter shortage an example of Protectionism's unintended consequences?
Plenty of people have held up Norway as an example of how to run things. But now that butter there is costing nearly $500 per pound, shouldn't we be taking a lesson? Norway has a butter monopolist called “Tine” that is deliberately protected from foreign competitors by government-imposed import tariffs.
5 AnswersPolitics10 years agoDoes anyone really believe that Chelsea Clinton deserves a job as a television journalist over all the people?
who have been working in that field for years? I often wonder what all the journalism majors and all the people who have put in long hours for little or no pay dreaming of one day being a TV journalist, vying for very few possible positions in the field, stand there and watch as when things like this happen.
5 AnswersMedia & Journalism10 years agoWhy doesn't Obama believe in Americanism?
In his speech in Osawatomie Kansas, Obama said:
"'The market will take care of everything,' they tell us. If we just cut more regulations and cut more taxes – especially for the wealthy – our economy will grow stronger. Sure, they say, there will be winners and losers. But if the winners do really well, then jobs and prosperity will eventually trickle down to everybody else. And, they argue, even if prosperity doesn't trickle down, well, that's the price of liberty.
Now, it's a simple theory. And we have to admit, it's one that speaks to our rugged individualism and our healthy skepticism of too much government. That's in America's DNA. And that theory fits well on a bumper sticker. But here's the problem: It doesn't work. It has never worked. It didn't work when it was tried in the decade before the Great Depression. It's not what led to the incredible postwar booms of the '50s and '60s. And it didn't work when we tried it during the last decade. I mean, understand, it's not as if we haven't tried this theory."
He doesn't think our Free Enterprise Capitalist system has worked...ever! He really believes that individual Americans are nothing without Federal Bureaucrats "protecting" them from themselves. I have never heard this kind of nonsense from any President in my entire lifetime.

2 AnswersPolitics10 years agoIs it a good idea to eliminate the current Congressional pension plan?
There is a movement to eliminate the very lucrative pension plan that Congress receives. It would be replaced with a 401k type that they would have to contribute to themselves. This would have two important effects. It would make serving a life long career in Congress much less attractive and save a lot of taxpayer dollars.
There is no right or wrong answer, I am only seeking your opinion on the subject.
14 AnswersPolitics10 years agoIs it any surprise that Charlie Rangel admits to not being patriotic?
He is once again calling for the draft but what I found the most revealing is the last line of this article. Speaking about his brother and himself;
“I would like to walk away saying how patriotic we both were, but really what motivated me was the excitement my mother would get in receiving a check for my older brother,” Rangel said.
For many decades he wrapped himself in the flag and his military service when he ran for office. But he doesn't even believe in Patriotism.
3 AnswersMilitary10 years agoHave Union Labor contracts destroyed the Postal Service?
80% of the USPS cost is labor. While at UPS (also unionized) it is 53% and at FedX (non-union) it is 32%?
