Is she a true red sesame Shiba Inu?
Are there any Shiba Inu fanciers out there?
Below are some pics of my Shiba Inu, Kasey. Her coat color is called red sesame. A few years ago I was at a dog show and asked a breeder with Shibas why it's so rare to see a red sesame Shiba being shown. She told me that to be shown they must be a true red sesame and that most either have not enough or too much of a percentage of the black-tipped hair that makes a sesame. So, I'm just curious. Anyone know if my Kasey is a true red sesame? I realize it may be difficult to tell from photos. No matter, she's gorgeous and we love her dearly.

Honestly, you are going to get a more accurate answer from Shibu breeders familiar with the breed, much like the person you met at the dog show.

I breed shiba's. your dog has a bit too much black on her. red sesame should only have just a slight highlight about her back, tip of her tail, around her mouth. the black on yours is very prominent. its probably from breeder a red sesame with a black and tan shiba.

I don't know, but your dog is gorgeous! Very striking : )
According to the National Shiba Club of America, it would appear that your girl is indeed of the sesame coloration. They don't list a percentage; I think it is rather up to that particular judge to say what is the most desirable concentration.

I'll star for my other knowledgeable contacts. : )

Unless you are going to be showing the dog, don't spend time worrying about the color. Personality, socialization and health are SO much more important. Discuss your color choice with the breeder, but if you are getting a pet quality puppy, you pretty much get that they have that is not show quality. It is often hard for even experienced breeders to tell before the puppy is older.
