What happens during the lethal injection?

What happens when a criminal is getting a lethal injection. What is in the poison that they inject. How does it affect the body, and does it hurt?

    There are three injections: 1) a barbiturate (sedative) to induce coma. 2) a neuromuscular blocking agent to stop breathing and slow the heart. 3) potassium chloride to stop the heart beating. Death follows shortly after. As you would be totally unconscious after the first injection, you wouldn't feel anything.

    If you've ever been anesthetized before a surgery or dental procedure, you know exactly what it's like to die by lethal injection. It's essentially the same cocktail of drugs, just in a higher dosage.

    they usually give a sedative, a paralytic and potassium.

    The sedative relaxes the person. the paralytic stops all the muscles in the body from working, including the ones used for breathing. the potassium stops the heart by messing with the ions within the cells
