What are the key components of ‘intercultural competence?’?

    I believe the term you meant to use is cultural competence. This concept is a huge part of social work and social service practices. It states that in order to work with populations that are different than your own, is to learn about what makes them different. You have to start "where the client is" and be open to their beliefs and practices. It's easy to assume something about a particular group based on observation but that observation usually has unrecognized undertones that are repressed by the popular majority. A key for understanding this is to look at your own personal biases, the history of oppression and inequality with the group being worked with, and cultural barriers to receiving social support and services.

    Being able to take another person´s point of view even though it´s not your own.

    That doesn´t mean you agree with or like that point of view.

    Every general needs to consider his enemy´s point of view in order to develop a working strategy.
