Your favorite John Steinbeck book?

So recently I've been in a Steinbeck mood. Reading and rereading everything of his.

I personally can't choose a favorite...it would either have to be 'Of mice and Men', 'Grapes of Wrath' or 'East of Eden'

So what's your favorite?

Update:

...AND why is it your favorite?

East of Eden. I love hating on the horrible evil mother!

East of Eden definitely. It's one of my favourite books. I think it covers everything life is about. Love, hate, guilt, the ability of self-destruction, good and evil...I think it's a really profound book and the best Steinbeck has ever written.

Of Mice and Men...I grew to hate the book a little when I had to write a 70-page essay on it in high school...I mean, the book is only around that! But now that I'm past high school I have developed a liking to it.

I also thought To A God Unknown was good.

"Of Mice and Men" without a doubt. I had to read it my freshman year of high school and analyze it. I found the general plot to be timeless, the characters were well formed, and it was simply an interesting book. Most of the "great classics" we read that year were the equivalent of modern day soap operas ("The Great Gatsby" and "Ethan Frome" to name a couple). But this one was truly classic, because it went deeper than those other books.

I have yet to read "Grapes of Wrath", but it's on my list. Steinback is a great author, period.

I like "In Dubious Battle" and "Travels with Charlie" It's hard to pick a favorite though I guess it would be Grapes of Wrath. But if you haven't read the two I mentioned, you will like them.

    Of Mice and Men,

because in grade 10 I was forced to read it with my English class.

I actually enjoyed it though. It had a good plot!

    Of Mice and Men

I've only read one, which is Of Mice And Men.

And after studying it for a year, I'm pretty sick of it.

Not a big fan, I must admit.

The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights: From the Winchester Manuscripts of Thomas Malory & Other Sources

i really liked this one becasue his writing style is so diffrent, its rich and dark and the characters are so complex. i hated of mice and men because it was so boring to me, there were so many symbols and stuff but the writing itself was pretty bad in my opinion.

Of Mice and Men....love the movie too.

It's the only book I read by him...=D

We had to read it for English class.

But, I enjoyed it, great book.

  • i really liked the movie of mice and men.

the book was good too, but I just liked the movie more.

I liked it because I could relate to george/lenny because my sister has a learning disability so it is frustrating at times.
