I have bipolar depression?
I have two beautiful granddaughters. When I think about them my happy memories make me sad and I start crying. I don't understand why I make happy memories sad. Have done this a lot but is getting worse. Can someone help me understand?

Do you miss them? Do you miss having your own children be the age of your granddaughters?
A lot of times what we are thinking about consciously stimulates our unconscious, emotional selves. It could be that there is something you have not yet admitted to yourself that is making you sad.
You could try this - when you think about your granddaughters and start feeling sad, pick up a notebook and start writing. Don't think too much about what you're writing, just write whatever you're thinking about. I do this, and often, when I read what I wrote days or weeks later, I realize the roots of my emotions.
Also, if you are truly bipolar, avoid antidepressants. They will most likely make things worse for you. But let a psychiatrist figure that out.

Your tears of joy might be getting mixed up with tears of pain/sadness in your brain. It does not sound like bipolar disorder, but generalized depression. Don't worry. It is nothing unnatural. Your brain simply has a chemical imbalance that can be fixed with a simple antidepressant. A lot of people don't take them or ask about them because they think they create unnatural feelings of happiness, but that is a myth. It is like a brain-vitamin that just corrects the chemical imbalance and returns the normal "you."
Make an appointment with your doctor and tell him you have been down and ask about antidepressants.
