Calculate the mass percent of a solution that is prepared by adding 27.4 g of NaOH to 257 g of H2O .

    The total mass of the solution is 27.4g + 257g = 284.4 g. the mass % of NaOH will be 27.4/284.4 X100. THe mass % of water will be 257/284.4 X 100

    Use the density to calculate the mass of the final solution: 1000 mL X 1.09 g/mL = 1090 grams of solution. The mass percent of the solution is: (mass NaCl / mass of solution) X 100 (128 g NaCo/ 1090 g solution) X 100 = 11.7 %
