Name Change on a minor in Illinois?
I need to change my son's name due to marriage. He is only 7 yrs old. I wanted to know what I would need to do to have it legally changed and how much it would cost. We live in Illinois, I know that each state is different. Where do I start? Where do I go?
Thank you :)
I need answers that are going to help please. Thank you for the input on Adoption, but how ??? I need answers not just some negative sentence(URTHETROLLNOTME!) . Also I cannot afford adoption and I was told that I can change his name in the meantime. I cant have him writing the other name anymore and we cant do the adoption yet, unless you have answers for how I can get an adoption done for cheap or free? There is no one else to contend with either. The father is not an issue, my husband is the only father that he has ever had. - thank you for helpful input.

he would have to adopted by your new husband if he isnt the father
you would have to hire a lawyer for this to happen it is somewhat simple .. it will cost anywhere from $2500 - $5000 for the lawyer fees and paper work
then if the natural father doesn't fight it it will be much easier and cheaper

It doesn't work that way! He'd have to be adopted, you can't just change his name!
