what do you think of pitbulls?

It is the only breed of dog I will ever own.I respect and admire all aspects of the American Pit Bull Terrier.

The reality is that the "pit bull" has become too popular for it's own good.There are way too many bad owners and even worse breeders out there.There are too many who want the breed for the wrong reasons.From one end of the spectrum to the other...the abusers to the do gooders.The abusers for obvious reasons,the do gooders because they think through love and training they will be like every other breed.The breeders who breed dogs that are unstable,have terrible conformation or mix them with other breeds that create ticking time bombs.

The APBT is not for everyone.They are extremely high energy,high drive,powerful and intelligent.They have certain genetic tendencies you need to be able to manage.You have to think one step ahead to keep them contained.They have to be exercised thoroughly on a daily basis.

They are and should be without question one of the most people friendly dogs around.There are many that excel at law enforcement,dog sports,hunting,therapy work etc.They are an all around wonderful and capable dog in the right hands.

Edit 2:Those of you with mixes please don't take my post the wrong way.There are many pit mixes that are wonderful dogs.My issue is with people who intentionally breed mutts.Especially those who introduce guardian breeds and such that can make the APBT human aggressive and unstable which it should never be!

The media. The media puts it out there that Pit Bulls are these horrible, mean, aggravated animals when in all reality, a dog is only mean if raised to be that way. Do you ever see in the news that Labrador Retrievers attack people? Very rare, because usually they put "DOG" in the headline, and mention in the article somewhere vaguely that the dog was a Lab.

The media LOVES to put this out there to create unnecessary bias against these dogs. Every dog of this breed that I have ever met, and that is a LOT of them, have been sweet and playful. So many of my friends have them and they are the sweetest!

I LOVE PIT BULLS! Every one I have met is amazing, and I have met some pretty nasty and mean, not to mention AGGRESSIVE Labs and Golden Retrievers!

pitbulls are no different from any other dog. They become what you teach them. If you teach them to be nasty and mean, then that's what they will be. I have known people who got pit's for that reason and then got rid of them because they weren't mean enough.

I know several people who own pit's and they are great dogs. I do not own a pit, but simply because I favor the Boxer, not because I think pit's are mean dogs.

I've had mixed experiences w/pitbulls.

Personally I believe it depends on how they are raised and by whom. We recently had a young girl die because of a pitbull attack here in Memphis. It was reported that there were other pitbulls on the property of the owners and they were known to be aggresive. But I have also known of them to be loving and caring dogs. It just depends on their surroundings and how they are trained, raised and by whom.

well pitbulls are very nice dogs if you play with them or socialize with them they need a lot of attention

the ones that fight are only mean cuz people made them like that

i have a pit mix

i had him since i was 8 and he never hurt me

it bothers me when people look at him like hes going to bite or walk away from him and stare

he doesn't even look mean!

there's alot of good things about them to say but im too lazy to say it all lol:)

i think they are equal to all other dogs,but people take them for bad dogs,but it really just depends on how the dog is grown, even sometimes some shitzu are more aggressive then pitbulls.

i love them and i would get one but in the future because right now i have 4 dogs
