Torrents are not like winrar, though that would be cool. . . but no.
Well let's see how to explain torrents, I'm going to try to compare it to something. . .
Seeders= = = People who have the file completely, and are sharing.
Leechers = = = People who also Downloading the file, and are sharing whatever they are.
There lots and lots of these people all around the continent/globe, but you have no idea where they are at.
When you go to torrent sites(my personal fave is piratebay.org), You type in what you are looking for and then it gives you all the possible maps that relate to what you typed. These maps will identify who are the people seeding and who are the people leeching. So you Download the map (.torrent file) and give it to your personal errand boy (open it with torrent client, utorrent is popular one) to manage this for you .Errand boy goes however he pleases to get to these destinations in the best, fastest possible manner (picks up pieces of the file from seeders or leechers, here and there to make you a file). You just sit back and wait as the errand boy puts these pieces together on your door step. When he is done, you are now a seeder.
Get it, go to torrent sites to get mapping called a torrent file, then the errand boy aka torrent client, will do the rest of the communicating.
OR think of it this way, the mapping are blueprints, and the errand boy is an engineer going to different specific stores to get the pieces he needs to finish the blueprints. You just have to download the blueprints from a torrent site first, and he'll do the rest.
Just be aware, Some blueprints could be bad. . .(this is no different from programs like lime wire.) Just look at the amount of seeders, if there's alot, then it's a safe file. It's very unlikely a huge group of seeders have the same intent to share something as bad to harm your computer.

You need to download and install a program called a torrent client. That's the program that takes the information in the torrent file itself and downloads it from other torrent clients. Once you have a client installed, downloading a torrent file will cause it to be added to the list of files in your torrent client.
Be careful about downloading a client program, because they're a favorite way for spyware and viruses to sneak onto your computer. I personally use one called utorrent, and haven't had a problem with it. Or you could just google "torrent client" and check out what you find.

You download a torrent program, like utorrent (use google); then you go to a site like torrentz.com and download the torrent files. They run (they are safe) and the torrent program downloads your stuff for you.

not really. you dl software like utorrent, or vuze. then you go to a site like the piratebay.org or isohunt.com and search the torrent. dl it, and open it in the torrent software. then you can monitor/control the dl in the software. always seed!!! stealing is even worse when you dont share....
