Which Computer? Mac Or Windows 7?
Ok, i'm going to ask the much debated qustion. Which computer would be better? A Dell XPS or a MacBook Pro? The MacBook Pro is a good $800 dollars more expensive then the Dell and has less space. Im in college and will be getting it closer to the spring. I have worked with only PC's all my life. XP and Vista. My current four year old laptop now is VERY slow and frequently crashes; I do have appropriate security so I know it probably just time to upgrade. I want something reliable, fast, and that will hold up well over a four year life span.. especially if im going to spend $1700 dollars.

MAC's are better for a few reasons, but the biggest reason why a MAC is better, is because you can install Windows on a MAC.
I'm a computer consultant, so whenever the newest OS' come out I need to buy them. It just makes sense for me to buy 1MAC and install Windows on it, and basically getting 2 new computers for the price of 1.
I tell my clients about 95% of the time it's a matter of preference, as to a MAC or PC, the other 5% of the time you need 1 or the other. If you are buying this for your home, I would buy the MAC. For the same performance, the MAC is actually cheaper, and notice I said same performance and not same hardware. Windows, including Windows 7, has became so over bloated you need to buy more hardware to give you the same performance as a MAC, with less impressive hard ware specs. Even if you are a serious gamer, and that's the only reason to choose a PC over a MAC for home users, the money you save will be enough to buy a version of Windows and install it on your MAC. Thus giving you a MAC plus a PC for less money than 1 PC.
So my professional opinion, I say buy a MAC. BTW until a couple of years ago, I was a die hard PC user, but there are just too many problems with PC's, and the cost and time to maintain them are not worth it.
And please people, MAC's are not more expensive, in EVERY situation a MAC is MUCH CHEAPER, both in the initial purchase price and the cost of ownership during it's life cycle, when comparing 2 computers of equal performance. And I'm not some MAC lover that HATES PC's. I do like both, but having used a MAC extensively over the last few years, I have realized, the only 2 things I like better about a PC is the feel of the mouse and the keyboard, and guess what, you can use a PC mouse & keyboard on a MAC.

Depends on your needs. I'm using a Mac right now, but I'm not going to tell you that there is a one-size-fits-all answer to your question because everyone's situation is unique. Up until not too long ago, I was just like you. Only ever used a Windows PC. In fact, I also still currently use a Windows XP, as I work as a developer in IT. I use Windows a LOT, and know it better than I probably ever will know OS X.
But when it comes to personal computing, I think the Mac was the right choice for me. Plus, I've got Windows running on it in case I need it, but I hardly ever do.
To that end, if you end up going with a Dell, go for XP Professional. Vista was obviously crap, but in the months I've spent tearing Windows 7 apart, I'm not impressed with it either. While it's much faster than Vista, it's pretty much just a faster version of Vista. Not a whole lot of value added. On top of that, unless you spring for Windows 7 Ultimate, you don't get a lot of core functionality that is included in XP Professional.

Windows 7 obviously. I have been using Windows 7 before it is release, and still not a single crash (except for IE; Firefox is way better). Most people think that it is some kind of magical OS that "just works". Well, it's not true. Mac can crash and burn just like any Windows PC. Did I forget to mention the Apple Taxes?

If you have the money get a Mac and install vmware fusion and then windows 7 on that, so you can run windows and mac software. They both run Intel processors which is kinda lame but nice. Macs are better built, yes they are more expensive and they don't get the bang for buck equation but if you can get one get one. But they are more durable and better looking, and they do have better support. But you do need windows ability. Macs don't slow down THAT much over time, they do but not much. And they are pretty fast.

Okay, they can't get viruses, and I've had mine for almost a year and it's still just as fast as the day I got it. There's so many cool features. You can record your own music (which I enjoy, because I'm a musician) You can edit videos, and everything is just simpler.
And not only that, windows 7 is pretty much just a bad version of Leopard, so you might as well stick with the original and go with mac.
Go to an apple store and play around with one for a bit. You'll fall in love. I promise.

I just installed Windows 7 on my PC for more than 2 months, but its performance doesn't well at all.
Now I am come back to choose Windows XP for my personal use!
I'd like to re-select Windows 7 foe use after it becomes more better!

Windows 7. Macs are way overrated don't believe their commercials. You get more bang for your buck with PCs
