Sounds as if your friend's computer doesn't know the secure password to get into the router. If the friend goes to Network Connections and finds the "name" of your router and tries to right-click it and "Connect" the friend may get a prompt for username and password, in which case you (your friend) will have to enter the secure username/password that's set up for your router... and the password may very well be a very long booger which you should know in advance! Once the friend's computer knows it once, the friend's computer will know it forever and ever, world without end, so your friend's computer need only enter it the first time.

You're doing something wrong (maybe setting the router up wrong). The provider should see only 1 computer (the router) connected to the internet. That's what a router is for. Are you sure you're using a router, not a switch or hub? (That wouldn't work.)

If you're sure it's a router, tell us the make and model of the router, and someone can help you further.

I assume you know the difference between a router and a switch and hoe to operate the router.

Let the router dial the connection for you(plug the line provided by your provider into the router and use the software provided by the router). Plug your computer and your friends computer into the router. This way the ISP will see only one computer (that's your router).

in the journey that your ISP tries to cost you for each laptop on your community, substitute vendors. They already impose a bandwidth restrict on your connection. they actually haven't any company telling you among what proportion desktops you may divide that bandwidth. they are able to discern which you have a community, yet they actual won't be able to tell no rely while you're connecting on your community wirelessly or with the aid of a twine. the way you connect on your router is irrelevant. in case you sense like attempting prompt lower back, although, there are various many coaching on the subject in case you seek spoke back questions.
