Dachshund. Call animal control and let them know you found a dog with no collar. They'll probably have you bring him in so they can scan him for a microchip and fill out some 'found dog' paperwork. It may be that he's lost and his owners are looking for him, and the first place people usually look for a lost dog is the pound. If you are interested in keeping him if nobody claims him, let the animal control people know that and they'll let you know what your options are for adopting him. A vet can make a guess-timate of his age and let you know if he's been neutered. If your female dog is spayed, she won't allow him to mate with her. Is your dog up to date on her vaccinations?

You need to take him to your local animal shelter. He could have a microchip that holds his owner's information on it (they'll have a scanner there). Someone could have called in a lost dog.

If you are interested in keeping him for the time being, tell the shelter you can keep him as a foster dog. Make sure the dog gets all of his shots before bringing him back into your home. You can put up signs in your neighborhood detailing the dog's description and where he was found.

Because your female is spayed, you don't have to worry about pregnancy. That being said, even if the male is fixed (a look between the hind legs should give you an easy answer) he might still want to hump to symbolize dominance. I would caution you to keep the dogs separate until the stray sees a vet because he could be carrying an illness that might transfer to your female.

Teeth are a good indicator of how old a dog is, but there's no way to pinpoint the dog's age. A vet at the shelter might be able to give you an estimate. I wouldn't suggest trying to look yourself because you don't know if this dog has had all of his shots and he might try to bite you when you check his teeth.

Good luck with the situation and thank you for taking in a stray.

First you call your local SPCA and shelter and see if anyone is looking for him. Imagine your little chihuahua has gotten out and someone found her. You would want the finder to help get her back to you. The dachshund may have a chip and a vet can scan the dog to see if he has been chipped. Give the dog a bath and he will be happier. But try to get him back to his forever family before you decide to keep him. No one can tell you how old it is without seeing the dog. Check to see if he has been neutered. (he either has 2 of them or he does not) And all of your pets will be healthier if they are neutered.

Put up posters saying you found the dog and bring it to a vet to make sure there is nothing wrong with him, especially since you have other animals.

look at his teeth if they look clean then he is a younger dog if they look dirty then he is a lil older..look at the tartar on the teeth. well if the dog has balls then he is not fixed. if you cant see then try to feel for them and see. if he is not neutered then he might try to hump your dog. call your local shelter in the morning..
