Is a $90 upgrade from 512MB to 2GB RAM worth it?

Dell Dimension 2400

2.2 Ghz Pentium 4

Specs: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim2...

How much faster will it be? (openoffice or photoshop worthy?)

Is it worth it?

Or should I just ditch this old PC and buy a new one?

Well yes buy a new PC! However, you can find RAM for a lot less than $90 though on newegg.com

You will notice a difference with 2GB vs 512MB.

If you are going to a be buying a new PC anytime soon then I would wait and just save some money.

http://www.techbargains.com/ has good deals on PCs pretty often. Good luck!

for $90 I would go for it.. since I had to pay about $120 I think for the same upgrade.. but then again it depends what you would be doing on your comp and how much memory you actually need.

I have alot of music and pics on my comp and I play sims 3. my memory space is starting to get pretty low so I'm going to have to start looking at either another upgrade, or an external hard drive.

  • wow just buy a new computer, pentium 4 is ancient. Plus its only 2.2 Ghz and a single core not fast to begin with. Your better of to buy a new computer.

    and i agree with Uther

2.2 Ghz pentium 4 isn't very fast...and upgrading your RAM won't help too much.

Go with a core2 duo processor. they have 2 processors that both run at fast speeds. go with at least 3Ghz and at least 2GB RAM.

No way. You could get some from newegg (depending on if you have DDR/DDR2/DDR3) for around $10-$40, easily.

    Absolutely worth it!

    no.

just because you change the tire of car, it doesn't mean that car runs fast.
