Good question sir. Make no mistake about it, Riddick Bowe would put up a tremendous fight against Larry Holmes with his size, power, and boxing ability. Bowe's trilogy of fights against Holyfield were something to see and he did beat the Real Deal two of those fights. So at his very best, he would be a severe test for even Larry Holmes. Larry Holmes arguably had the greatest jab of any heavyweight champion in boxing history and used that jab very effectively retaining his heavyweight title 20 times against such fighters as Earnie Shavers, Carl Williams, Gerry Cooney, and Terry Witherspoon. Larry was a very accurate puncher and a very clever fighter and often isn't given the credit that he deserves as a great fighter. Now this is how I have this fight shaping up: The first few rounds would mainly be a cautious jabbing contest with Holmes showing the faster more piston like jab, but Bowe also displaying a good one of his own. In the middle rounds Bowe would start to assert more pressure and try to turn it into more of a slugging match and even working the body of Holmes effectively in an attempt to slow the jab of Holmes. Both men would rattle each other from time to time with some really hard shots. After 10 rounds this fight would be practically even on the scorecards. Either in a 12 rounder or a 15 rounder, I have Larry doing whatever it takes still using that great jab of his to win this fight by a close but unanimous decision.

Riddick Bowe's prime was so short but very memorable. Being the only fighter to ever KO Evander Holyfield in his prime. By comparison Larry Holmes didn't have a dynamic fight that pushed him until late in his career against Michael Spinx, which was already past his fighting prime.

Taken in consideration that Riddicks prime was better than Larry's even though Larry had a longer range in his prime. IMHO Riddick would beat Larry. He would be too big and physical for Larry to overcome. He would probably win by a Unanimous decision and possibly knockdown Holmes somewhere around the 9th or 10th. It wouldn't be easy but "Big Daddy" would win in the end with his jab reach and punching power.

There is no bigger non-blood-relative fan of Larry Holmes than me. That being said, I have to not completely agree with those that say Larry wins this one easily. The Bowe that beat Holyfield for the title was one of the best HW boxers ever, and would have given Holmes fits early on. It would be an akward, even fight early, with both fighters trying to establish their game. The fight will tip to Larry Holmes once stamina becomes a key factor. Holmes wins a close 12 rounder, or pulls away with a solid points win in a 15 rounder.

  • Holmes wins this fight by a wide margin.

Bowe had a good jab, and could hit, but he could be hit, and didn't always have the best focus. He was also pretty slow.

Holmes had one of the greatest jabs of all time, a powerful, lightning fast jab that could cut opponents and keep guys from coming on the inside. He also was a great defensive fighter, utilizing ring movement, countering and slipping, skills he learned from his many years as Muhammad Ali's sparring partner.

Holmes would use that jab to mess up Bowe's face and win a 12 round decision.

I am a huge fan of Bowe but he did waste his prime. He could have fought Lewis or even the likes of Moorer would have been better for him but he fought a load of overmatched fighters. He showed against Holyfield what he could do. Holmes is probably one of the most underrated heavyweights in history. Holmes would beat a lot of people from history but he suffered from coming after Ali. I will go for Holmes but I think Bowe would give him a good fight because, had he fought and beaten Lewis and Moorer, he would be rated a lot higher.

Bowe has no heart he has all the physical tools to beat anyone but in side of his chest nothing Holmes would take him apart. If Bowe would rather throw away his championship belt rather than to fight Lennox Lewis what would make you think that he would want to get in there with the great Larry Holmes. This question makes me want to slap someone.
